I never found the idea of 'traveling to get away from xyz' very appealing. Maybe there wasn't much to get away from.
Neither do I derive pleasure in pursuing checklist itineraries. That's for kids at Disneyland.
Men should only travel for love or money.
Most people do the exact opposite when it comes to 'travel'. They spend money traveling to places they barely appreciate, to get away from people they actually love.
The cute word for that is tourism- an idea marketed to the middle class to support large sections of the economy that work hard to make your voyage as insta-worthy as possible.
That doesn't mean I hate to travel. My idea of travel is more nomadic.
Having moved across 3 countries and 10 cities, I have come to love each one of them.
Move to a new place.
Learn the local dialect and shop at the weekly markets.
Study the city maps and hike the backyard trails.
And smell all four seasons before you move to the next one.
That is my idea of travel.
